In the closing year, our colleague Andrzej Ruszczak passed away—a renowned local historian of the Hutsul region, an indefatigable traveller of mountain paths, and a passionate researcher of the figure and creative legacy of Stanisław Vincenz.

On 29 November, the eve of Stanisław Vincenz’s birthday, the traditional ‘November Vincenz Readings’ took place in his native village of Słoboda—an annual cultural and artistic event dedicated to the legacy of the prominent writer, philosopher, and humanist.

The opening of the 22nd Travelling Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in the Ternopil region took place on 13 October at the Zalishchyky State Gymnasium. The choice of this educational institution was not coincidental – according to the results of the external independent evaluation of graduates’ knowledge in 2025, the gymnasium demonstrated the best result in the region and the fourth-best in Ukraine.

The journey of the International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA will begin on 13 October in Zalishchyky, and over the coming weeks, it will travel through Husiatyn, Chortkiv, Zavodske, Ternopil, Kremenets, Vyshnivets, Berezhany, Hrymailiv, and other towns in the Ternopil region.

Journeying Along the Vincenz Trails in the Shadow of War

In August, our colleagues from the ‘Carpathian Society’ (Towarzystwo Karpackie) carried out a local history expedition aimed at reaching the most remote corner of the Hutsul region—the area lying south of the Chivchyn Mountains and the Hryniava uplands, right by the Romanian border. it is here, where the sources of the Black and White Cheremosh are hidden in the ravines, that the Hutsul epic refers to as the ‘Navel of the Earth’.
